Error with experimental installer on MacOS - unbound variable

I've upgraded to Sequoia 15.3.1. Per devenv installation documentation I ran the experimental installer and received an error about an unbound variable:

$ curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/NixOS/experimental-nix-installer/main/nix-installer.sh | sh -s install

Checking the blame it seems the unbound variable was introduced in this commit: d028660

Following the advice in commit message unfortunately doesn't work as latest tag is missing. I managed to have this working via:

curl -L https://github.com/NixOS/experimental-nix-installer/releases/download/0.27.0/nix-installer.sh | bash -s install

There's yet to be an announcement or intentional invitation for third parties to start ~depending on artifacts of our work here.

We're close, but we're in a holding pattern waiting for a redirect from nixos.org.

(I don't mean to deter individuals from trying it--just to manage expectations and maybe deter others from depending on it. The project needs room to fumble around towards the right release process without backwards-compatibility obligations. This may still get redone yet again. The org/community will still need to make some important decisions about how to manage/version/release this installer relative to Nix, for example.)

Since we don't know how quickly it'll come together, I intentionally left 0.27.0 marked as a prerelease to limit how readily third parties can start depending on our work via the latest redirect in the interim.

I guess one path forward is to break this more intentionally. Maybe just renaming the file to nix-installer.sh.in...
