The functions available in the coding.h file are generally useful for setting keys and values and should be exposed to the user of the library. I'm guessing you might say the dependency on port.h prohibits this bu the Big Endian/Little Endian condition could be broken out.
Additionally, is it intended that a "make install" target will eventually be made?
